GLP-1s and Eating Disorders Workshop

Join Dr Rebecca Stone, Dr Jordan Marwood, and Professor Louisa Ells, bringing together other expert speakers, including individuals with lived experience, clinicians, policy specialists and researchers for a CPD-accredited workshop exploring the challenges and opportunities presented by GLP-1 use in people with a lived experience of, or at risk of developing, an eating disorder.

This workshop will examine the evolving role of GLP-1s within the context of eating disorders, considering both the potential benefits and the risks associated with their use for weight management. Across three sessions, speakers will explore lived experience perspectives, clinical practice, policy considerations and emerging research in this rapidly developing area.

Topics will include access to GLP-1s and the education needed to support safe prescribing through GP and pharmacy routes, awareness of black-market use and the wider social narratives surrounding GLP-1s and body image, monitoring disordered eating behaviours during treatment, and the importance of tailored wraparound care and post-treatment support. The workshop will also explore current research investigating how people living with obesity experience GLP-1s for weight management, alongside research examining access to GLP-1s, motivations for use, and their impact within eating disorder populations.

The workshop aims to raise awareness of the complexities surrounding GLP-1 use in eating disorder contexts, deepen understanding of current clinical, policy and research perspectives, and consider future directions for GLP-1 development and research, including emerging formulations and potential implications for addiction. We will share learnings and resources to apply into practice, alongside providing the opportunity for questions.
