Professor Beate Herpertz-Dahlmann

I am studying eating disorders for more than 30 years. First, I specialized in pediatrics, after that I became a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy. Later I became the director of a rather large department for child and adolescent psychiatry in Aachen/Germany with a special ward for anorexia nervosa (AN) patients. As the outcome of inpatient treatment for AN is not good, my team and I thought of developing alternatives. First of all, we conducted a rather large trial about the comparison of inpatient and day patient treatment. At the moment we get funding for another RCT about the comparison of home treatment (HoT) and inpatient or day patient treatment which is rather demanding, but also exciting. Since the Corona pandemic we think that parents are much more exhausted supporting their child than before.
